Welcome to Eucratis, the Eco Museum to assist you in discovering Greece “unknown” and rediscovering Greece as we mostly know it.
Greece, the cradle of western civilization indeed, Greece of the Olympian gods and Greece of the Olympic Games, Greece of the great philosophers and Greece of perhaps the most popular mythology worldwide. Greece of the Aegean Sea, Greece of the Acropolis and Greece of the Delphi oracle.
But along with this familiar Greece, come along on our virtual – and not just – travels, not only to rediscover our typical Greece, but also to be amazed of Greece as the first Christian nation, Greece of the Byzantine empire, Greece of the occupying powers – be it the Francs, the crusaders, the Turks, or even Hitler’s Germany. Discover Greece of its people and of the populations that settled on this great peninsula at the southern tip of the Balkans over the centuries, the people who “crossed” its roads, either as merchants, as immigrants, as refugees, or even as rich or humble travelers, poets, artists, soldiers, mercenaries and preachers! For, as or we all know, history is an ongoing process with every small community and every nation writing and rewriting it again and again over the centuries.
We will try to not only show you the sites and the famous ruins, but also to present you with all aspects of local culture through time, to allow you to “taste” the food and the local wine, to uncover the psyche of the people through their daily routine, their beliefs, their influences and their traditions, even their clothing, their popular art, their music, their social structure and the things, images and ideas they either feared, worshipped, abhorred or yearned for.
Our site will be constantly added to, with new stories, travel and popular culture information, trip organizing tips. We will aim, so as to our Eco Museum to become a living museum experience for the web traveler and for the well thought out traveler of the future, when our world will have overcome the limitations of the Covid-19 pandemic.
For, that time will soon be here!
With our best wishes,
